All children from Nursery to Primary 7 take part in Community Groups. Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2 are the Eco Warriors. The rest of the school from Primary 3 to Primary 7 are mixed up into the other Community Groups.
If you would like to support our Community Groups then we would love to hear from you! Our Community Groups are every second Tuesday. Please get in touch with the school office if you would like to get involved.
This year our Community Groups are:
The Pupil Council is guided by Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which states that all children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives. This session we have reflected on how we develop respectful relationships within our school and we have created a pupil version of our school improvement plan. We will have an important role in helping our school to begin its journey towards becoming a Rights Respecting School in 2022.
The Eco Explorers are working hard to help the school to be green! This session we have organised school litter picks and learnt about how long different materials take to decompose. During Switch Off Fortnight we encouraged all classes and staff to be more economical with their power usage and as part of Waste Week we shared with the rest of the school information about the problem of electronic waste. We have also planted seeds to grow plant s for our school garden and we have provided every class with compost caddies so that we can make our own school compost. Local business Livvies are sharing their used coffee grounds which we add to our school compost heap. We love making a positive difference to our school environment and helping the planet at the same time!
Our school Friendship Group works to ensure everybody in our school community feels welcome and included. We also want to spread our friendship into the wider community to which we belong. This session we have spread joy in our community by creating positive posters which have been displayed in shops and local businesses. We also sent Christmas cards to residents of our local care homes. In school we promoted anti-bullying week and we are working with our Headteacher and the Parent Partnership Group to organise a new buddy bench for the playground. We are running a competition to decide on a welcoming design for the new bench. We want to help our school be a really friendly and kind place for everybody.
The Eco Warriors
All children in Nursery, P1 and P2 are part of our Eco Warriors group. This session we have found out about the important work of bees; we have found out about the different types of bees in our playground, discovered information about the life cycle of a bee and we have learnt about honey and where it comes from! We have also been learning about trees and all the things that we use which come from trees. Finally we have also been den building for different weathers, finding out about minibeasts and how the weather affects them as well as thinking about plants and and how different plants grow in different weather conditions.
Health heroes are responsible for keeping the school healthy , happy and safe. We hold assemblies, we organise events such as the big pedal where we have a cycle to school week. We also learn about how to be safe at school and within the community. This session we helped to promote mental Health Week and created an Easter Walk through our community for families to enjoy together. We also introduced Fruity Fridays to encourage everyone to have fun with fruit and to promote healthy heating habits.
